August Challenge: Arms!

I think, if I have to pin point the weakest area on my body is arms.  I focus on them when I strength train but my downfall is not being consistent.

So here is this months challenge!  We are starting on August 1st.  Like the last challenge I'll post check ins on my Facebook page.

This one is super beginner friendly so if you are a bit more advanced go ahead and do it 3x's ;)



I've had people already ask me about modifications with this challenge.

If you can't do tricep dips there is always overhead tricep extensions.


If you don't have dumb bells, improvise.  Grab some canned veggies & use those instead!

Spinach, Bacon & Egg Muffins

These are so easy to make!




I make them in big batches so I can just warm them up & go in the mornings.

So what do you need?

This batch made 9 egg muffins....
8 whole eggs
1 cup cooked spinach
4 slices of bacon, cooked & chopped

Spray the muffin tin with Pam (liners I find don't work well at all) and fill up each cup 3/4 of the way.  



Put in the oven at 375 for about 20-30 minutes.

Get creative with them!

It's Not Just About Weight Loss

Sometimes losing weight can be a catalyst for other things.  You have dreams & hopes for things you want to achieve and with that you think weight loss is a cure all for everything you think is wrong with your life.

Which it really isn't going to by itself.

If you don't focus on the inside....the mental aspect and work on yourself then all you'll change is just the number on the scale.


I was never as positive as I am now.  Heck, I wanted to seriously end my life at one point.  It was some scary stuff there.  

How did I get so nauseatingly positive?

I'm involved with a company that I love (it's not weight loss related at all) and the main focus behind the scenes has always been on sisterhood.  Our trainings consists of business & personal development.  Which luckily for me I was exposed to that....every where I turned lol

Two of the women in particular got through to me (I love you Monica!).  I don't remember what was said but in the end I was asking myself "Why not me?  Why can't I be happy and change what I want to change?  I am not only a wife and mother, why can't I be me too? "

So what were my steps?

Mainly I decided to learn to love myself.  Loving and accepting yourself does not mean you want to stay the same.

That really had to be drilled into my head over and over and oooover again.  

I put inspirational quotes on post-it notes and stuck them on my lamp next to my bed, the mirror in the bathroom, my closet door, & the fridge.

I read The Secret and I'm currently reading Nice Girls Finish Fat (it's a really good book).

Every time I thought or said a negative about myself, I'd write 5 positive things about me in a notebook.

I surrounded myself with positive people and limited my time or ended my relationships with the negative people.  

I started my fan page on Facebook.  When I reach out to inspire and help others, I am also inspiring and helping myself.

I put my self at the top of my priority list.  Does this mean I turned into a big mean self absorbed witch?  No.  When I take care of myself, it will ensure that I'm mentally & physically there to help others.  It does mean that I have to say no sometimes but it really is ok to do that.  Spreading yourself thin is not ok.

It all sounds simple.  I'd like to throw back a comment I get a lot lol

"It's easier said than done."

It's worth the effort though!

Find The Joy In Your Journey

We are all guilty of it.

We focus so much on the end result then if we don't slow ourselves down we totally miss the smaller experiences.

It can be so stressful looking ahead all of the time.  Stop and smell the flowers, wiggle your toes in the grass....throw your arms up when the wind blows and truly enjoy the here and now.

Do me a favor and think back on today.  What could you do today that you could do before you started your journey?

I bet even if you recently started you can find something.

Walking a little further, being able to tie your shoes, having more confidence because you are feeling better....stop and enjoy these little things.

They are more important really than the big picture.

Taco Stuffed Zucchini Boats


Yum!  My husband suggested I try this and it was so yummy!  

5-6 medium zucchini
1 lb lean ground beef or turkey
Packet of Taco seasoning or you can make your own
2 roma tomatoes, diced
1 small onion, diced
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1. Trim the ends from the zucchini, and slice them lengthwise in half. Using a melon baller or a teaspoon measuring spoon, cut out the insides of the zucchini to form boat shapes. Roughly chop the zucchini pieces that you have removed.  Blanch, zucchini boats in boiling water for about 5 minutes.
2. Brown the meat in a saute pan. Add a little bit of water and the taco seasoning. 
3. Add the onions, tomato, and zucchini pieces to the pan. Cook until most of the water released from the vegetables has evaporated.
4. Remove the pan from the heat. Mix in the softened cream cheese.
5. Place the zucchini in a baking dish, and stuff each one with some of the mixture. You will have left overs!  Use it for a snack later...bell pepper strips are so good with this!
6. Top with the grated cheddar. 
7. Bake for approximately 25 minutes at 400 degrees.
Nutritional info for 6 medium zucchini.  2 halves each serving.

Day 1 of K.I.S.S.

K.I.S.S. means "keeping it sweet and simple" ;)

I'm going back to basics for myself.  Staying low carb, "if I bite it, write it", exercising (which I never stopped) and focusing on myself.

It always seems when I don't put myself first, I let things get to me and I eat for comfort.  I had a gain last year because of the same freaking thing.  You would figure I would learn the first time lol

I'm very frustrated with myself *but* I'm not beating myself up over it.  I did have a "Come to Jesus" with myself.  I can't let my commitment to my self slip again.  It just can't happen.  I'm being selfish and I could careless if people agree with me or not.  I don't care if the Zombie Apocalypse is happening...I'm going to stay true to myself.  Period.


Yeah!  Why not me?!

So my day went pretty well.  It was a peaceful day as far as food is concerned (if you want to check out my food I'm on My Fitness Pal under taneeisfitforlife).  It was the typical stay at home mom day besides it being my youngest child's birthday.  I can't believe my baby is 7 *sniff*


She got a new bike, that is a little big for her so I spent the afternoon helping her get comfortable with it.

I did have a vanilla cupcake with a Hello Kitty ring tonight to celebrate but it's all good ;)

My big decision is joining my local gym (Slidell Athletic Club)....I'm going tomorrow to check it out :)

Eating on a budget

I have 3 kids....2 of them boys and they are getting to the age that they are always starving.  Plus my husband, who has a very physical job & eats a lot (he doesn't gain any weight either...I try not to hold that against him lol)

Our budget is about $400 a month on food.  Which can be a challenge sometimes.

We don't eat organic or anything like that.  We *do* buy local as much as we can especially with produce.

The veggies & fruit we eat do change with the seasons because well.....in season means cheaper.



As far as meat goes we either buy what is on sale and marked down or we buy it at Sam's (along with frozen out of season veggies).

I know not everyone has access to cheap veggies or fresh veggies may even be hard to find, like in inner city areas.

If you live in that kind of area, buy frozen or canned veggies (without salt if you can).  You have to use what you have.

I don't buy many grains but when I do I catch them on sale & try to stock up.  I might not eat it but the rest of my family does.
